Lawrence E. (Larry) Rosen is both an
attorney and a computer specialist. He has extensive experience teaching
computer programming, and has been a department and product manager in the
computer and communications industry. As an attorney, his specialty is
technology, but he is also a skilled litigator and negotiator, and a legal
advisor to individuals and companies throughout the Bay Area.
Larry received his bachelors degree
from Dartmouth College in Hanover, N.H. He then pursued a master of
computer science degree at the University of North Carolina at Chapel
Hill. He received his law degree from Santa Clara University.
Before he became an attorney, Larry
taught computer programming and managed several computer departments at
Stanford University. He then worked in private industry, managing computer
and applications development. At one large firm he guided the design,
implementation, manufacturing and marketing of successful products for
data and voice communications.
As an attorney, Larry has been
responsible for civil litigation and business transactions. He has
produced successful results for both individual and corporate clients,
handling complex legal issues including formation of corporations and
non-profit associations; technology licensing; patent, trademark and
copyright litigation; wrongful termination and discrimination; insurance
bad faith; personal injury; employee benefits; and other cases and appeals
in California and US District courts. In addition to conducting a busy
private law practice, he is also assistant city attorney for the City of Redwood City. Larry is also
the attorney for the Open Source
Initiative, which manages and promotes the Open Source Definition for
the good of the community, specifically through the OSI Certified Open
Software certification mark and program, and for the Bay Area Gardeners Association. He
frequently provides pro bono legal services through the Santa Clara and
San Mateo County Bar Associations.
Larry has a strong commitment to
public service. He served on the board of directors for several non-profit
organizations, including serving for a time as treasurer and vice
president of the largest AIDS service organization in Santa Clara County.
He was for almost 11 years on the board of directors (and for many years
chairman) of a $60+ million credit union in the Bay Area. He has served on
United Way committees, and is proud to coach a mock trial team in one of
the local high schools in San Mateo County. He is the founding president
of the Rainbow Chamber of
Commerce for businesses in Santa Clara, San Mateo and Alameda
Counties. Larry is an active member of the San Mateo County Bar Association, California Bar Association, Licensing Executives Society, and the American Civil Liberties Union.
