IN THE NEWS: The Court Appointed Special Advocates, also known as CASA, put on a fashion show to benefit the organization at Inverness Golf and Country Club. Strutting down the cat-walk were Norm Early and Bob Fullerton.

The DBA's much loved Seniors Committee member Brooke Wunnicke was featured in the Rocky's Spotlight section on Sept. 28. A full-page photo complemented a full page article about Brooke's book-writing and life as a lawyer. She was quoted: "I love the law, warts and all. I know there are many things wrong with our system today, things I deplore. Yet I know it's the best legal system ever known to mankind."

The Colorado Journal featured profiles of the CBA Award Winners in their last September issue. William McClearn, Sherri Sweers, Elisabeth Arenales, Patricia Craig and Daniel Taubman were honored at the CBA's 102nd Annual Convention in Keystone in September for their enormous contributions to the legal community. Congratulations to all of you!

Former Deputy District Attorney William Buckley and former District Attorney Norm Early were in the Oct. 1 edition of the Post for attending a dinner, auction and dance for Denver Victims Service Center to thank WB2 and the Home Builders' Foundation for helping victims of crime.

GOOD THINGS: Hugh V. Schaefer has been elected president of the Rocky Mountain Mineral Law Foundation. He has been practicing law for 39 years, focusing on oil and gas law.

Colorado Court of Appeals Judge Jose D.L. Marquez received a grant from the State Justice Institute to go to the graduate program for judges at the University of Virginia Law School. Marquez is the third Court of Appeals judge to participate in the program.

Gregory Osterloth, partner at Dahl & Osterloth, was elected president of the Board of Trustees of the Denver Lions Foundation, a non-profit corporation that supports the charitable projects of the Lions Club of Denver.

DBA senior Bob Hawley was awarded a plaque for practicing law for 50 years in Wyoming on Sept. 14. Last May, Bob was named a 50-year member of the Denver Bar Association and given lifetime membership. In another 10 years, he'll be awarded with the 50-year honor in Texas. Congratulations Bob!

Margaret Makar, an immigration attorney and CLE board member, has written an amusing anecdote in "Shark Tales," an anthology of humorous stories from the practice of law. The book is edited by Ron Liebman of Patton Boggs in Washington, D.C.

NEW DIGS: By July 2003, the University of Denver Law School will move to its University Park campus. The new building will be on the property north of Evans Ave. and west of University Blvd., on land between several fraternity houses and the Ricks Center for Gifted Children. John Moye, a former faculty member, chairs the committee that plans for the future of the school. Will the movie "Animal House" be played out at the law school? Stay tuned.

CTLA has elected its new officers for 2000/2001: Robert Schuetze is president, James Christoph is president-elect, Ross Buchanan is vice-president, Richard "Mike" Hodges is secretary and Gordon "Skip" Netzorg is treasurer.

CHANGES: Clanahan Tanner Downing & Knowlton has a new special counsel attorney, Anthony L. Leffert, and a new associate, Amanda C. Barry.

Bradford J. Lam is general counsel at TV Communications Network, Inc.

Daniel A. Sweetser and Patrick M. Ryan are shareholders, Richard D. Judd and Mark J. Appleton have joined as special counsel, and Bradley K. Benson is a new associate at Robinson Waters & O'Dorisio.

Wheeler, Trigg and Kennedy has added five new attorneys. They are: Raymond W. Martin, Paul F. Hodapp, Nancy E. Berman, who will focus on employment and labor law and Carolyn J. Fairless and Catherine A. Ricca, who will concentrate on product liability and commercial litigation.

J. Gregory Whitehair, former assistant U.S. Attorney, is now Of Counsel with Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher. His practice emphasizes patent, trademark and trade secrets.

Patricia A. Thatcher, commercial litigator, has rejoined the firm of Cage & North.

Holland & Hart welcomes Thomas L. DeVine, a real estate and finance attorney, as special counsel.

Sarah A. Klahn is now a partner at White and Jankowski. She will continue her practice in water, environmental, land use and governmental permitting law.

Michael Gaimara Jr., 60, died Sept. 16. Michael was a member of the DBA and a health care lawyer.

William Robb, 55, died Oct. 9. Bill was an attorney at Dufford & Brown and specialized in water and environmental law.

We extend our condolences to the families, colleagues and friends of these men. They will be missed.
