CONTACT: ROLAND ADAMS EDWIN L. JOHNSON APPOINTED DARTMOUTH'S HANOVER, N.H. — Dartmouth President James Wright has appointed Edwin L. "Win" Johnson as Vice President for Finance and Treasurer of the College, effective immediately. Johnson, a 1967 graduate of Dartmouth, has been a member of the College’s administrative staff since 1982, when he was appointed to the position of Associate Controller. He was appointed Director of Financial Services and Associate Treasurer in 1984. He has served as Acting Vice President and Treasurer since June 1998. In announcing the appointment, Wright said, "Win Johnson has done a wonderful job as Acting Vice President and Treasurer over this past year, as he has for the College for 17 years. I have had the pleasure of working with him for many years. He brings a rich experience and a range of talents to this assignment. He is a strong colleague committed to Dartmouth’s purposes." Johnson said, "This is an exciting opportunity to serve Dartmouth. I’ve always looked at my role as trying to make things happen with the resources we have, and I’m looking forward to continuing that role for the College." During his time at Dartmouth, Johnson has helped develop a budget process that has enabled the College to plan more effectively for long-term strategic goals. He has also helped give individual managers more authority over their own budgets and has facilitated participation by budget officers from Dartmouth’s three professional schools in the central administrative process. Johnson was instrumental in the conversion to an Oracle financial system, and supervised the engineering of a major redesign of campus purchasing and procurement processes, resulting in better contracts, more coordinated efforts and less paperwork. A resident of Brownsville, Vt., Johnson received a bachelor’s degree in economics from Dartmouth. He then served two years in the United States Army as a lieutenant before going on to the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Finance and Commerce, where he received a master’s degree in business administration in 1971. From 1972-1977 he was Executive Director of the Southern Windsor County Regional Planning Commission, headquartered in Springfield, Vt. From 1977-82 he served at Valley Regional Hospital in Claremont, N.H., first as Assistant Controller and then as Controller, then joined Dartmouth. - 30 - | ||||
