Program Director

Dr. Sokol is responsible to the Principal Investigator, Richard D Krugman, M.D., Dean of the School of Medicine, for the overall administration and operation of the Pediatric General Clinical Research Center, and has overall responsibility for each of the facilities in the Center. He is responsible for communications with the GCRC Branch of the Division of Research Resources, NIH for fiscal management relationships with the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center, University Hospital, and The Children's Hospital. He is responsible for ensuring that the Center has appropriate facilities from the University and from The Children's Hospital and for the proper user of these facilities. He works closely with the Scientific Advisory Committee on protocol review and policy decisions, and has overall responsibility for the conduct of research and patient care. He also has overall responsibility for the training and education roles of the Center.

Associate Director

William W. Hay, Jr., MD (303-315-5981)

Dr. Hay has been a Professor of Pediatrics since 1988, and has been the Associate Program Director of the Pediatric GCRC since 1982. He is responsible to the Program Director for the supervision of the neonatal facility. Dr. Hay's major scientific interests are: perinatal (fetal, placental, maternal) physiology; fetal and neonatal nutrition; intrauterine fetal growth and fetal growth restriction; perinatal pathophysiology of diabetes mellitus; mammalian carbohydrate metabolism; neonatal-perinatal medicine; radioactive and stable isotope tracer methodology; oxygen transport and oxygen monitoring.
