I graduated from Dartmouth College in 1967. My major was
history. In 1968 I graduated from the University of New Hampshire
with a Master of Arts in Teaching degree. My grandfather owned a
small grocery store and I grew up in that business. I joined
Hannaford in 1968 as one of three Retail Management Trainees. After
a year of training I moved to Vermont as an assistant store manager.
By 1977 when I moved back to headquarters I had managed a store,
supervised five stores, and been promoted to Divisional Vice
President. After serving as Vice President of Merchandising and
Operations I became President in 1984 and Chief Executive Officer in
1992.
My jobs have been challenging and rewarding. I work with talented
people who enjoy being especially competitive and successful. Our
business changes in response to customer needs, competition, and the
economic environment. We are always challenged to learn more so that
our future will be as healthy as our
past. |
