St. Thomas' Episcopal Church is a congregation of real and ordinary persons, located not in cyberspace but one specific corner of New England, specifically Dover, located on the New Hampshire side of a river border with Maine.

As Dover moved beyond its fishing-and-farming origins to thrive as a typical mill town by the 1830s, a large number of experienced textile workers had immigrated from England. When there was sufficient critical mass for Anglican worship, our church was established in 1839. Later, in the decades bracketing 1900, another contingent of mill workers from the North of Ireland came into the parish. By the time that the Great Depression morphed into the Second World War, the mills of Dover were closed. Our city went into a period of decline, and St. Thomas' Church grew smaller and its ethnic identity was diffused. Our city and parish have now been rejuvenated by new members of many ethnic and cultural backgrounds. No longer are we called "the English church". The future of our parish is now ecumenical and multicultural.

At present, we are working hard to find effective ways to teach and pass on the Christian faith to children and adolescents. We love to receive encouragement from visitors, and especially do we love to raise up or receive new members!
