CAPT Dave E. Gibson, MSC, USN was born on October 30, 1961 in Shreveport, Louisiana. He grew up in Boulder, Colorado where he enlisted in the United States Navy in 1979. During his 6.5 years of active enlisted service he served as a Hospital Corpsman at Naval Regional Medical Center San Diego, California and later at Naval Hospital Charleston, South Carolina. While serving in Charleston he attended college at night and received a Bachelor's of Science degree (Magna Cum Laude) from Baptist College at Charleston in 1986. CAPT Gibson completed graduate studies in Total Quality Management at Hawaii Pacific University in 1994, received a Master of Public Administration degree from the University of Oklahoma in 1994, and was awarded a Master of Health Administration from Baylor University in 1996.
CAPT Gibson was commissioned an Ensign, Medical Service Corps in May 1986 and was assigned to Naval Hospital Beaufort, South Carolina where he worked in several administrative positions. In the spring of 1990 CAPT Gibson transferred to the 1st Marine Expeditionary Brigade in Kaneohe Bay Hawaii as the Medical Administrative / Navy Personnel Officer. Two months later he was temporarily reassigned to I Marine Expeditionary Force and deployed to Southwest Asia during Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm as the Force Medical Planner.
Following completion of the didactic portion of the U.S. Army-Baylor graduate program in 1995, CAPT Gibson completed a one-year managed care residency at DoD TRICARE Lead Agent Region 6 in San Antonio, Texas. In 1996 he was assigned to the Naval Medical Center San Diego, California where he served as Asst Head, Patient Administration and as the Plans, Operations, and Medical Intelligence Officer on the USNS Mercy core Full Operating Status crew. In 1998 he was selected to assume the duties of the Health Service Support Officer for the 1st Force Service Support Group at Camp Pendleton, California. In 2002 he completed a successful tour as Executive Officer, 1st Medical Battalion.
In January 2003 he was temporarily reassigned and deployed in support of Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom to Headquarters, Marine Forces Central Command in Bahrain as the Force Medical Planner. Prior to commencement of combat operations he assumed command of Alpha Surgical Company, 1st Health Services Battalion in Kuwait. Spring of 2003 he returned to his duties as Director for Administration, U. S. Naval Hospital Roosevelt Roads, Puerto Rico where he spearheaded administrative actions related to the 6-month rapid closure operations of the hospital. He is currently assigned as the Commanding Officer, 2d Medical Battalion, 2d Marine Logistics Group, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.
CAPT Gibson is a Fleet Marine Force Qualified Officer (FMFQO) and wears the Meritorious Service Medal (with gold star), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (with 3 gold stars), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (with 1 gold star), and 20 other decorations. Professionally active he is a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives.
