Biography

Major Peter T. Shaul was born in Fort Lewis, Washington, and as the son of a career Army officer, he lived on Army installations throughout the United States, Spain, Bolivia, and Panama. He was the distinguished military graduate of Washington State University in 1983, where he was commissioned a second lieutenant in the Medical Service Corps and awarded a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration.

Major Shaul's first assignment was to Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 3/66th Armor Batallion, at Fort Hood with 2nd Armor Division, where he served as Medical Platoon Leader. He was then selected as Armor Platoon Leader in D Company, 3/66th Armor Batallion, a unique assignment for a Medical Service Corps officer. He later served as S-1 and Detachment Commander with the 48th Medical Battalion, Platoon Leader with the Main Support Battalion, and Field Medical Assistant with the 2nd Armor Division Headquarters. He was then selected as Aide-de-Camp to BG Alcide M. LaNoue, Commandant of the Academy of Health Sciences, who later became The Surgeon General of the Army. After his assignment as Company Commander with the 41st Combat Support Hospital at Fort Sam Houston, TX, he attended the Army Medical Department Officer Advanced Course, where he received the Carmack Award as the Distinguished Honor Graduate.

In July 1989, Major Shaul began the US Army-Baylor University Graduate Program in Health Administration at Fort Sam Houston, TX. After completing his administrative residency at the 2nd General Hospital and being awarded the Master in Health Administration degree in 1991, he served as Chief, Primary Care Support Branch and later as Chief, Clinical Support Division at 2nd General Hospital, Landstuhl, Germany. He transferred to Washington, DC, in October 1993 where he was Assistant Project Manager with Task Force Aesculapius until his medical retirement in August 1994.

A 1994 graduate of Command and General Staff College, Major Shaul's awards and decorations included the Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal (with Oak Leaf Cluster), Army Commendation Medal (with second Oak Leaf Cluster), Army Achievement Medal (with third Oak Leaf Cluster), the Expert Field Medical Badge, and Parachute Badge.

Major Shaul retired from active duty on August 15, 1994.

Major Shaul was married to the former Dorothy Anne Boyle, an officer in the Army Adjutant General Corps, and had two sons, Matt and Joe.

Major Shaul died September 23, 1994.
