Biography

Mr. Wyatt accepted the nomination to become the PD/ASD (HA) on February 4, 2002. Mr. Wyatt acted as a liaison for the Assistant Secretary of Defense (HA) with other offices within the Office of the Secretary of Defense, the Military Departments, Congress, and other Executive Branch agencies to develop and coordinate policies, ensuring maximum integration of healthcare policies with departmental priorities and initiatives. His specific duties include oversight and coordination of Congressional and legislative activities for the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense (HA), managing the public affairs program and strategic planning activities.

Raised in an Air Force family, the son of Chief Master Sergeant and Mrs. Edward P. Wyatt, he enlisted in the Navy as a Hospital Corpsman in June 1967. His assignments while a corpsman included duty with the U.S. Marines in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba and with Combined Action Groups in the Republic of Vietnam. Mr. Wyatt received his BS from the University of Maryland and his M.H.A. from Baylor University, Texas.

Mr. Wyatt was commissioned in the Medical Service Corps in 1975 and assigned to the Naval Health Sciences Education and Training Command. Subsequent assignments included: the Resources Planning and Programming Division, Bureau of Medicine and Surgery; the Systems Analysis Division, Office of the Chief of Naval Operations; Director, Patient Administration, Naval Hospital, Charleston, South Carolina; Medical Readiness Directorate, Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense (Health Affairs); Director, Legislative Affairs, Bureau of Medicine and Surgery; Senior Medical Planner in the Allied Command Europe, Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE); and Head, Medical Plans and Policy Branch, Office of the Chief of Naval Operations. Following his naval career Mr. Wyatt joined the U.S. House of Representatives Subcommittee on Military Personnel as a professional staff member. His staff legislative and oversight portfolio included the military health care system, medical readiness, gender integration, military justice and equal opportunity.

Mr. Wyatt's awards include the Legion of Merit, the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal, Joint Service Achievement Medal, Navy Achievement Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, Vietnam Campaign and Service awards, Good Conduct and National Defense Medals. He was also awarded the American Hospital Association's Federal Health Care Executive Award, and was recognized by The Retired Officers' Association for his work on the recently enacted TRICARE for Life initiative. Mr. Wyatt is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives.
